Eagles QB Jalen Hurts likely out for the season after blood clots found in lungs

Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback Jalen Hurts is likely out for the rest of the 2026 season based on the latest health update from the team and his agent, Nicole Lynn.

Hurts, 28, was initially diagnosed with a superficial blood clot in his calf, but the current diagnosis is deep vein thrombosis as well as bilateral pulmonary emboli, which indicates blood clots were found in his lungs.

While the statement says the prognosis is “very good” and a full recovery is expected, Hurts is going on blood thinners and will not be able to play football until that treatment plan is complete.

That’s why it’s unlikely Hurts will return during the 2026 season.

Here’s the full statement from the Eagles and Lynn:

The Eagles announced last Thursday that Hurts would miss the Panthers game with a blood clot and then eventually placed him on IR Saturday afternoon.

The initial blood clot was discovered during an ultrasound on Oct. 10 when the Eagles arrived in London. Hurts was able to play in that game but a follow-up ultrasound in Philadelphia revealed that the clot had moved.

Without Hurts on Sunday, the Eagles started backup Tanner McKee in a 25-14 loss to the Panthers. McKee will remain the Eagles’ starter going forward.
