State Farm announced it has started transferring payments to millions of drivers it insures.
The payments are part of a “one-time distribution” of $5 billion in cash, considered the largest in the company’s history, for over 49 million auto insurance clients, as per an announcement published on State Farm’s website.
According to the company, clients who meet the requirements will be notified about the payment either via email or physical mail.
Customers are asked to be aware of any communications they may receive from State Farm, since these will include instructions on how to gain access to the payment portal, and how to select their desired payment method; digital payments and checks are available.
Though payment amounts will vary depending on the customer’s state and the premiums paid, they are expected to average $100 per vehicle, the company stated in their initial announcement released in February.
The payment process will likely take months to complete throughout the country.
Who will be compensated?
Payments will be sent to customers who have had an auto insurance policy issued by State Farm Mutual and valid at any time between Jan. 1, 2025, and Dec. 31, 2025, as long as the corresponding payment was at least $10, the minimum amount required for processing.
Policies issued by a state-assigned risk program do not qualify.

Why is State Farm making payments?
On the website portal, the company explained the dividend is possible thanks to the “financial strength” and “stronger than expected underwriting performance in 2025.”
“As a mutual [insurance] company with a customer-centered focus, State Farm Mutual can contribute direct value to our customers and simultaneously maintain the financial strength necessary to fulfill our future promises. This year, this translated to lower auto payments and cash returns in the form of $5 billion in dividends for those insured,” State Farm Mutual President and Executive Director Jon Farney said in a statement.
