Famous Siberian cave yields remains of yak-like Ice Age mammal
A Siberian cave already famous for yielding the first remains of an extinct human lineage called the Denisovans, who once roamed widely in Eurasia, has now produced evidence of a previously unknown large Ice Age mammal closely related to today's yak. Researchers said they discovered small bone fragments of the animal in Denisova Cave in the Altai Mountains of southern Siberia in Russia, and obtained DNA that showed these remains belonged to a bovine species distinct from others already known, living and extinct. AI safety concerns have multiplied following security breaches by AI systems and dire warnings from industry heads about the possibility of severe, even existential, risks of runaway AI development in addition to public concerns about potential job losses. While Anthropic is betting on distributing wealth through ways including nonprofit donations and direct contributions to specific populations, Musk has said he recommends "giving the shares directly to the public". "Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America. This will be the first of many," Musk, who runs Anthropic riva...
