Investigation underway after gunfire erupts near basketball court in Abington

An investigation is underway after police said gunfire broke out near a basketball court in Abington Township, Pennsylvania, this week.

According to the Abington Township Police Department, on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at around 8:15 p.m., officers were called to the 300 block of Cadwalader Avenue in the Elkins Park section of Abington Township after receiving reports of gunfire.

Police said several 911 callers reported hearing numerous gunshots and saw a large group fleeing from the area of the basketball court behind the McKinley Firehouse.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a large group had gathered near the basketball court, police said. As a vehicle traveled northbound on Cadwalader Avenue, two men ran into the parking lot of the McKinley Firehouse, retrieved firearms, and one man discharged multiple rounds at the passing vehicle.

Following the shooting, police said the individuals fled the scene in two different vehicles. One is an unknown color Audi sedan and the other a gray Infinity sedan.

Police said no injuries have been reported to police or area hospitals. However, one residence, located in the 300 block of Cadwalader Avenue, was struck by a single round.
